Media Release: WSCC online resources for workplace safety and exposure control planning for Covid-19

29th Oct 2021

Yellowknife, NT (October 29, 2021) – The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) has updated resources and tools to assist employers with exposure control planning during the ongoing pandemic.

“Employers and workers play a key role in preventing and slowing the spread of COVID-19.  All businesses and organizations need to closely monitor the most current public health requirements and be prepared to follow any orders and guidance for their community and industry. It is particularly important for businesses to review and update their safety plans when the risk of COVID-19 in their community or workplace has increased”, said Cary Ingram, Chief Mining & OHS Inspector for the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

WSCC has made updates to the resources and checklists available to employers, which make them easier to use, download, and adapt for use in different workplaces. Resources available on the WSCC website include risk and hazard assessments, a COVID-19 workplace safety planning checklist, templates for worker and client screening, and posters and signage.

It is the responsibility of all employers to manage health and safety for their workplace. This includes having a written exposure control plan that shows all the precautions that will be taken to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission and keep workers, customers, and clients safe.

To have a WSCC Inspector assist you with completing or updating your workplace safety plan, please email Covid-19@wscc.nt.ca or Covid-19@wscc.nu.ca.
